What you’ll learn in this article:

1. Time Management with your English Coach Strategy #1: Don’t wait until you “have time.”
2.  Time Management with your English Coach Strategy #2: Don’t fool yourself.
3. Time Management with your English Coach Strategy #3: Save 100s of hours with this 30-second decision.
4. Time Management with your English Coach Strategy #4: YOU decide what there’s time for.

1. Time Management with your English Coach Strategy #1: Don’t wait until you “have time.”

Do not wait! Do not wait until the time is “right” to start seriously improving your business English. If you know that you need to speak better English for your career, do not put off working toward your goals until you have more time.

If you want a little motivation from a great personal development blogger, take a look at Leo Babauta’s ideas on why you should start working toward your goals–even when you are busy.

Waiting is probably the number one mistake I see smart, professional people make. They can see that their English is holding them back professionally and that it’s hurting them a little bit every day.

But they say, “I’m too busy”, “I’ll start in a few months”, or “I need to think about it…”

You can already see it at work. You can see that you’re ready for better English. You’re ready for more confidence when you’re speaking.

You’ve been feeling it for a long time. Every time you can’t speak clearly in meetings in English. Every time that you don’t get that new job or promotion. Every time you see that your English is limiting your potential.

Your English is constantly reminding you: it’s time to change something.

2. Time Management with your English Coach Strategy #2: Don’t fool yourself.

So you know you need something better, but here’s something I see way too often. You trick yourself…You tell yourself something that’s not true.

“I’m too busy now. I have to wait until I have more time.”

The thing is, there is no magical tomorrow when there is suddenly more time.

Here’s the thing: You CAN fit English into your schedule. But only if you start right away.

One of the very best ways to make your English learning take less of your time is something called distributed learning.

Distributed learning works by practicing for really short periods of time. But over a long period of time.

It’s one of many systems backed by neuroscience for saving time and achieving your language goals. Most of those systems require you to start early–and keep working over time.

But if you choose to fool yourself, you just stay frustrated and stuck. Until…

3. Time Management with your English Coach Strategy #3: Save 100s of hours with this 30-second decision.

I have seen a lot of people finally change their career reality when they change their English reality–without waiting until they have more time.

It’s a change that takes 30 seconds. It looks like this:

“That’s it! I have to do something NOW. I’ve got goals I care about in life, in work. English is stopping me. I’m tired of it and I’m going to do something about it today.”

That 30-second decision to act will save you 100s of hours. Because you have changed. You realize you are tired of waiting for the “right” time. You decide.

NOW is the right time. And that’s the most important time-management change you can make. If you think the time to improve your English is now, take a step. Sign up for my 5-day challenge.

4. Time Management with your English Coach Strategy #4: YOU decide what there’s time for.

The very best time-management decision most of us make in the business world is this. You decide what matters. You decide what gets on your to-do list. You take control of your free time.

You decide what goals you want to reach. Not someone else. So why don’t more people do it? Because it’s different, it’s new. You have to see yourself in a new way.

You have to change your habits. You have to think again about how you spend the time you have. You may have to reorganize your routines.

And you may need to have a discussion with other people in your life so you can find the time.

And you’re going to have to hold yourself responsible for working on your English–not just when you “have time” or when you “feel like it.” You’re going to have to create a routine, a schedule. Something that fits into your day–every day.

And yes, you have obligations and deadlines. But you can decide to spend 15 or 30 minutes a day on your English.

Don’t let others dictate your schedule or your to-do list. Just like you wouldn’t let others dictate what your goals are. And definitely don’t leave it up to chance.

The things that you show up and do every day are like steps. You take one step at a time, but after years, you get somewhere. Make sure it’s where YOU wanted to go.

If you have decided to do something about your English NOW.
