What if 2022 was the year where you decided to stop being stuck in English?
What if this was the year you became a new you in English?

Maybe you’re feeling like your English self isn’t as confident as your true self and you’d like to change that.

Maybe you’re wondering how to make 2022 the best year ever for your English.

I work with a lot of business professionals who tell me the same thing when we first meet:

 “I’m not improving anymore…”

When that happens, feeling like a ‘new you’ in 2022 can seem like an impossible dream.

But you should know that feeling stuck with your English is really common.
It’s so common that language teachers have a name for it–we call it the intermediate plateau.

And maybe the real question for you in 2022 is this:  What can you do to get off the intermediate plateau…and be a new you in English?

Let me help you become your true English self starting today.

I’ll share the same expertise with you that I share with my clients as a Neurolanguage coach.

I know how hard and frustrating it is. I was stuck at the intermediate plateau when I moved to France and needed to use French for work. I remember feeling there was nothing I could do about it. And I remember how it felt when I finally found the right communication program to help. And I could be my true self in French.

Let’s make 2022 the year you discovered a new you in English. The real you. The person you were meant to be.

1. How to tell if you are stuck on the intermediate plateau.

So, how do you know if being stuck on the intermediate plateau is what’s holding you back in your English and your career.
If you’re stuck on the intermediate plateau, you’re probably feeling frustrated and tired of it!

It’s hard to feel like the best version of yourself because when you’re on the intermediate plateau you constantly have to search for your words and you hesitate when you speak.

Speaking just isn’t easy for you.

And how can you feel like your new 2022 self when you feel stressed in business situations like answering the phone or giving presentations in English?  That’s another sign that you’re on the intermediate plateau.

Can you imagine a new you in English? One that felt confident going into business conversations. Without that scared feeling in your stomach. Can you imagine the feeling of relief that comes from feeling like your true self when you speak?

That’s what it feels like to get off the intermediate plateau.

But…

The thing is, you’re a smart person. You’re hard-working. And the reality is, if getting off the intermediate plateau was easy or intuitive… you would have done it already.

And that’s why getting off the intermediate plateau can seem like an impossible dream.

GET THE WORKSHEET: Make sure you practice these expressions so you can use them in real life with this worksheet made for you by a Neurolanguage coach.

2. Why getting off the intermediate plateau can seem impossible.

You may be feeling a little afraid to dream of this new 2022 self you could be in English. After all, when you’re on the intermediate plateau, it’s normal to feel frustrated.
Because you’ve studied for years. And you don’t know how to improve. You can’t think of what else to do.

But maybe it’s time to change the way you think for a minute.

If you’re stuck on the intermediate plateau–stop and congratulate yourself!

Since it’s 2022, and a new year, let me congratulate you on being here–on the intermediate plateau. And for wanting more.

Because it means you’ve learned a lot already.

You’ve learned so much, in fact that it makes improving more…difficult.

When you start learning English, you improve quickly at first…and then the improvement stops at intermediate.

The problem is that you need an advanced level of English for most business situations–which is why you feel stressed at work!

Next, I’m going to share two learning techniques that I learned as a Neurolanguage coach.  They’re techniques I’ve practiced over years of helping people who are stuck with their English become their real selves, their new selves.

I love watching people grow in their English. Maybe it’s my favorite thing about what I do.

When you start improving again, it feels like you’ve become a different person. A new you in English. I love watching people do that.

And today, I’d like to invite you to get started. Not to do everything today. But to understand one small new idea–and put it into practice in a small way.

  • I want you to remember you need 2 kinds of learning techniques to get unstuck.
  • And then I want you to make those new techniques habit.

GET THE WORKSHEET: Make sure you practice these learning strategies so you can make them part of your new habit for 2022 with this worksheet made for you by a Neurolanguage coach.

3. 2 learning techniques to get you off the intermediate plateau.

Ok, so how do you get off the intermediate plateau in the New Year–and forever?  Here’s one way I help my coaching clients:

Use 2 kinds of English learning strategies: natural learning and deliberate learning.
You may have heard me talk about these before. But have you made them a part of your English habit yet?  Maybe now is the time, this year, this new start.

First, you’ll need to do some Natural learning:
Or just taking in the language by exposure, “living” English.

You know, the way you would if you went to live in an English-speaking country.

Second, you’ll need to do some deliberate learning:

Think of working on your English, studying, “doing” English.

And for both, it’s important to use resources and topics that are relevant and useful for YOU

4. Natural Learning Activities you can try today.

It all starts here. This is the small step you can take today to start becoming a new you in English in the New Year. And natural learning activities are simple to star with because they’re fun. And they come naturally to you!

Natural learning activities:

Remember, natural learning is learning for fun or for pleasure.

Try one of these activities:

  • listening to podcasts that you enjoy
  • reading books or magazines in English for fun,
  • watching TV and series you like,
  • practicing English on social media,
  • speaking in English in a conversation.

Basically, by doing these activities, you’re living your life as usual–only in English.I’ve collected some natural learning activities for you, so you can be your 2022 self in English:

– Podcasts are a great way to practice:  One of my favorites is: Lewis Howes’ School of Greatness
– Books or magazines on topics you’re interested in are also a great idea. I read and enjoyed: Wild. What books would you love to read?
– I bet you can think of a TV show you like in English! One of my personal favorites is The Queen’s Gambit.
– Practice your English by “chatting” on social media–using English (You may want to join my free Intermediate Plateau Challenge, on Facebook, LinkedIn, and/or YouTube)
– Have interesting conversations in English with people you like speaking to. Being perfect isn’t as important as being there, practicing and enjoying yourself.

5. Deliberate Learning Activities to add to your English routine.

Do you know what surprises me? Many of my clients aren’t using deliberate learning activities when they start working with me. They simply don’t realize how important they are.

So adding deliberate learning activities into your Enlish routine might be one of the most important small steps you take in the New Year.  It doesn’t take a lot of work, just consistency. Here are some ideas.

Deliberate learning activities:
Remember, deliberate learning feels like work, purposeful studying, specific practice.

Try one of these activities:

  • reading the transcript of a podcast,
  • highlighting new vocabulary,
  • creating flashcards,
  • listening exercises,
  • doing grammar exercises,
  • working with a teacher.

Here are some deliberate learning activities to help you be a new you in the New Year in English:

– Listen to a podcast with transcripts you can read  and understand more. You could try the Faster Fluency Conversation Club or All Ears English–both provide transcripts.
– A great deliberate learning strategy is using flashcards!  I love Quizlet. That’s what I use to make flashcards for the Faster Fluency Conversation Club podcast. You can always make your own flashcards by hand too.
– There are a lot of great listening exercises you can do. Here’s a list of listening exercises & activities I’ve selected for you to get you started.
– Work with an experienced language teacher, like in one of my programs: Faster Fluency Conversation Club, or Business English Mastery.

Using both of these learning strategies and making a habit out of using them both is your first step towards becoming a New You in English in 2022.

Are you ready to take that step with me?
